Velvet Elephant

Liz Greene must have followed her intuition when she tried to place the opening sequences of David Lynch’s The Elephant Man (1980) and Blue Velvet (1986) side by side. The resulting diptych starts off as a bit of a cacophony, but then the two scenes strangely converge into what seems like a single nightmare.

 

“What was discovered through this simple act of placing both films together was rather revealing,” is how Liz Greene herself puts it. Indeed.
