Deformative vs Performative
Protocol
A set of standardized procedures from which there can be no deviation.
Aleatory
The outcome of the deformative protocol is (at least partly) a matter of chance.
Dogmatic
Deformance is a principled approach that exists by virtue of compliance.
Method
A method is more solution-oriented than process-oriented. Deviations are possible as long as they serve the goal.
Artistic autonomy
The performative method retains the (artistic) autonomy of the critic.
Pragmatic
Performance lays down some rules, but allows you to also break them.
