Unexpected echoes, rhymes, gestures, movements, and dramatic rhythms pass between Hitchcock’s rarely linked REBECCA and PSYCHO as two women traverse two uncanny houses and encounter two unnerving residents, Mrs. Danvers and Mrs. Bates. Other than selecting their beginnings and endings, I have left the clips and their soundtracks unaltered: the many apparent links and patterns that can be traced between the juxtaposed films are thus internal rather than imposed.
