Continuing to track the ways that filmmakers can communicate narrative arcs through sound and image devices, here we follow the sound of a dripping tap through one of Mad Men’s richer episodes, ‘Signal 30’. (It’s more interesting than it sounds. As always, the work of these artists offers great food for thought.)
Note: Only the sound credits of the episode were mentioned at the end. The episode was directed beautifully by actor/director John Slattery, and written by Matthew Weiner and Frank Pierson (Dog Day Afternoon). It would be interesting to see how much the dripping tap was foregrounded in the teleplay, if anyone has access to it and can share insights.
