This video essay explores the intersections between Alan Turing’s “Turing Test” for artificial intelligence and Judith Butler’s theory of gender performativity, and discusses this intersection through an analysis of Spike Jonze’s film Her (2013). This video is intended as a companion piece to Donna Kornhaber’s essay “From Posthuman to Postcinema: Crises of Subjecthood and Representation in Her.” My video lecture on Judith Butler’s gender performativity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XFg8…
